She has 4 eggs in January 2012

She is fascinating to watch.  To my knowledge she will stand up and stretch, but she doesn’t leave the nest.  I just have so many questions!

Owl Channel – UStream

I have some new friends here on my blog.  Here is one group of students working on an afterschool broadcast team.  Stop and look at their blog.  Great design choices.  They will be posting work, ideas, polls, and more soon. http://uptotheline.wordpress.com/

Here are some students from Townley.  http://thetwinbuzz.wordpress.com/  They would love to hear from you.

Just 43 years ago…..

What would they have done with a cell phone like you have? This is what those on the Earth saw on T.V. It is possible the foot step on the surface of the moon could still look just the same. Why?

On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave what could probably be said as his most famous speech, I Have A Dream Speech. What was his dream? What ways do you see this dream coming true today? What is different today than in 1963 in America?

Welcome 2012!

I thought this video was a great way for us to start 2012. His words are inspiring. What do you need to do to finish strong?

How can you help someone else finish strong?

I have two teams this year. I thought it might be cool for them to know each other better so they can talk more. Don’t forget to check out “The Twin Buzz” on the right to leave your opinions about questions they have asked. Remember to always show respect for other people’s ideas. If you are on broadcast this year, what would you like to post?

I love Shelfari.com

Here is what I have read, do you have books you would recommend?

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Ms. Avila’s class is going to be reading this book.  Can anyone who has read it give a recommendation or just your opinion?  Please include the city and state you are from, but do not give your full name please.

Happy Feet

Ms. Avila’s class read, Happy Feet, please share your ideas and thoughts about this movie and book.  Which one did you like the best and why?

Great Books – Flipped

This is one of the best pieces of children’s literature I have read in a long time.  I like the different perspectives and the characters.  Having the story told from two points of views gives light to the fact that relationships are complicated and wonderful at the same time.  It is only through the gut wrenching that you glimpse the wonderful.  The characters are complicated and real.  They illuminate that we are all different, but those who shine are the ones that have character and depth.  It gives new meaning to…”You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.”  Every middle school kid should read it.  It speaks to how cruel children can be and yet how some of them have more guts than anyone will ever imagine as the lives they live are not easy.  I thought the story was touching and a relief from the girl drama that authors sometimes portray as important.  This speaks to the child who sees their parents as they really are for the first time.

Cyberbullying

In November, both of my schools, John Haley and John F. Townley have been reviewing the rules for cyberbullying.  Can you post some tips and helpful hints that you have learned about as we have talked about this important topic?  Remember not to use personal information in your posts! :)

Turkey Trot

Thursday, I trotted with the turkeys at the annual 5K for the YMCA.  It is always great fun, but I should have trained for it.  It was so exciting to be with that many people trying to attain a certain goal.  I am excited to say that I did more than I thought I would.  There were so many dogs there besides my sister’s dog, Copper.  He was a little too excited to see so many new friends.  I think my sister’s family said this was his last time to do the turkey trot.  Poor baby!  You can see he can be kind of silly as my niece shows with this photo.

Tell me a story about your dog or a dog you know.

I miss Rosita!

It has been a few years now, but I just did a distance learning with some first graders at John Haley and wouldn’t you know they had a South American rose-haired tarantula!  RIP – Rosita.  Here’s to you!  If you remember Rosita, I would love to hear about what you remember about her.

In science observation can be everything…. watch this video and comment about how observations can be very important in a science experiment.

Everyone needs a little help every once in a while.  This baby squirrel is trying to learn something he thought was impossible. :)  What would you tell your teacher that you could absorb from the lessons in this video?

Starting Again…..

I need to start using this blog again.  Here is a video I found interesting.  What are some other ways we can encourage healthy habits?

Tell us about what you learned this year.    What did you learn in science, math, social studies, or reading?  Sometimes we learn things that are not from the book or what we thought we learned.  What did you learn about being a friend? helping someone in need? getting along with others?  taking your time? doing your best? about studying? working hard? etc.  Tell us about the projects or activities that really were special to you this year.  What recommendations would you make to the kids next year?  What advice would you give the kids next year?

Ms. Sneed’s class is a special group of second graders.  This was the topic they picked for the blog.  So kids, tell us what you plan to do this summer?  Tell us about places you may go, things you may do, and people you plan to meet either for the first time or for the hundredth time.

In the Band!

If you could play a musical instrument which instrument would you play and why?

I have always wanted to play the guitar, because I love the way it sounds.  I love music.  There are so many instruments I wish I could play.

I often think of rivers flowing and water rushing to the ocean when I hear the chords being played on the guitar.  It seems so relaxing and peaceful.

Movie from 1964

As summer approaches we will all have more time for movies as well as time to see movies that we missed.  What movies are you looking forward to OR what older movies would you like to see again and  share with a friend?  Tell us your favorite ones and certain responses will be shared on the blog notes this week.  Choose only movies you are old enough to have seen please. Teachers, we would love to hear from you! Also a special thanks to Ms. Sneed’s Class at Townley.  We appreciate you and your class writing in to tell us your thoughts.  Welcome!  Ms. Sneed, I am sure your class has a favorite movie and tell us why.
